I almost joined the club. Missed out on a '72 or '73 at my local music shop, years ago before even owning a guitar.
Fast forward to the week of new guitar ownership, I was again hunting SRs and one day an unmolested '74 Quad Reverb turned up, again at that same shop!
MV, ss rec...4 Fender Special Design blues (these 4 by Utah). Big and tight, full sounding clean or dirty...if you can stand trying to drive it without pedals.
It addressed the shortcomings as laid out by Ryan...plus added the benefit of 100w headroom. Layaway'd, got it a month later!
Only issue is it's top heavy and a bitch to move up/down stairs without a handtruck. Even with one... Otherwise casters make for some easy rolling.
But I still want a 65 blackface Super. Who doesn't?
