Start at about 16 minutes in. Before that the interview is cut over the performance ( )

Kayo Dot is amazing. Unfortunately, this thread just reminded me that they were here in Denver earlier this week, and I completely forgot about it

yup. That's where I just saw them. I wonder if there's any way that Rhino can make that room sound a little better. Maybe some foam here and there? It was really cool, but damn did the sound get muddy when the band played the crazier parts.

They're so fucking great.
Everything they do is so tasteful.
It's just always superbly composed.

They were in Denton last week, but I had a test to study for.

ChetMagongalo wrote:Toby ran a newer EHX Polyphase, and left it on for a lot of the time. Pretty sure Toby was running a two amp setup with a SS ampeg and a small Musicman combo. There were 4 amps on stage so someone was doubling somewhere. Toby had two MXR dirt pedals I think? He ran his vocals thru an EQD Dispatch Master. There were some other pedals but I don't remember them.

NECROBUMPIN'

what does everyone think of the new track?

i wasn't as quite as into Coffins as their earlier albums but this one i am digging a lot, especially the last few mins. psyched for the new album, and another tour that won't touch my continent :(

Would rather listen to Coffins (the band) but I really like Kayo Dot in theory.

New track is okay. I wasn't keen on their last album besides 2.5 tracks but I'll give anything Toby Driver a chance.

this song is okay, kind of starts slow, the last half was cool. the synths might be a bit more cheesy than cool, i think it makes the mix feel kind of empty at times. I couldn't get into Coffins on Io, it just made me feel uncomfortable as a whole. some of the songs had some super sick riffing sections tho.

i think the synths detract from the drums and guitars in places where the drum/guitar work is strong sometimes. like there are parts in that song that work really well (some of the sequenced bits in the first half; the last 30secs or so), but at other times it's kinda ehh.
like even on some of their really chaotic songs they've kinda eschewed the wall of sound thing and left a lot of vertical space so throwing pads into the mix kinda dulls it all a bit. i dunno.

Fiiiinally got around to hearing the new track. I like the last third the best. I'm not super stoked on the synth usage, but I like that they still have that weird, sort of amorphous song structure going on. I've always like that about Kayo Dot (and Maudlin of the Well)

How do I know this band? Did they do a split with Boris maybe? I feel like I was listening to them a bit in 2007ish but forgot about them.

Thank you for reminding me about them
