When I was in high school we didn't have any decent record shops so I had to send away for mail order catalogs. I remember spending hours reading everything in the Alternative Tentacles and SST catalogs. Also the Fantagraphics comics catalog.

They used to include these handy little catalogue things for the label's new and upcoming releases.
Sometimes they were shitty photocopies and you couldn't make out what was going on in the .5" album cover or what half of the copy said.
Which is how you get recommendations like those^^
