Um, what direction is he going?
He went through a purple patch there with the sonar, loop gate, and ah... That's it. New ways of looking at fx. Fairly intuitive. Cool. But this new stuff is kinda all over the shop. I don't get it.
pretty much this. I can bitch all i want about his prices, but he has had some great ideas and effects :) but the FFVII (final fantasy?) and Fuzzolo are quite strange/not really exciting at all

to be honest i think if he named this something new it wouldve been accepted better. but lets be honest. i think alot of people on this forum have owned at least 2-3 ff and a fuzz probe. i think we are so over saturated with fuzz factories that its hard to get excited about something like this. if he released this 10 years ago, when the ff was still a couple years old and there wasnt millions floating around and we werent sick as shit of its sounds people probally would have went ape shit over this. it sounds cool, it looks cool, but it just seems like another zvex pedal that will be mad expensive and close to impossible to flip when you get tired of it. i used to be a zvex fan boy and have an all zvex board years back, just isnt my cup of tea anymore.

I mean the shit effects he is putting out. As a direction.

And charging the earth for them. When the ff7 is unmasked I'll make one for about £30....
Minus the transistors which I don't cork sniff, ac128 will be fine....

Guitar mag: So Zach, where are you heading with ZVex 2014
Zvex: I'm focusing on shit.
Guitar mag: You're...
Zvex: Yeah. Shit. It's my new direction.

I guess I must be excited cause I never have owned zvex stuff. Never tried a fuzz factory but I have a supersonic fuzz gun which is close I guess. Oh well you guys are killing my interest.

I'm curious about it. $150 curious not $400 curious.

I don't either. My gut says he's responding to how he perceives market forces/demand and is creating a few things to see what will stick…I hope hope hope he can regain some of the focus that has made Zvex great. That being said, Lo-Fi loop junky has to be some of the most fun in a pedal that I have had in years...

Nah man, a fuzz with lots of knobs is always good. I think folk are mainly questioning whether its 400 bucks good...
Zvex will always be rad in my mind. Anyone who can convince people on a large scale to buy anything as unruly as the fuzz factory deserves respect. The probe series, the sequenced pedals, sonar and loop gate as mentioned, I guess maybe even the loop junky. That's a pretty rad list of ground breaking stuff, at least when it comes to larger scale manufacture. And the whole boutique thing in general owes a lot to him.
Which I think is why people crack the shits with him for not doing ground breaking stuff.

I guess I dont like the direction he is going in with uninspired mini pedals
The 2 channel and Buffalo whatever its called are not very nice. Considering how much technology zvex has, literally anyone could have put those two out.
and included trim pots on the inside for tone control for the fuzz....anyway

I just think the new stuff doesnt LOOK very nice either, especially the FinalFactory 7

Additionally, his prices are kinda crazy. You'd think supply and demand (easy to supply, massive demand) he might drop his prices from his "bootweek in his basement" days of doing stuff on perf/vero
All his designs that I am aware of are PCB, inc SMD or hybrid layouts. Theres not as much hand-made-ness to them anymore. The PCBs are farmed out for the most part as far as I am aware. Fully open to being corrected on that one.

I dont like that the same construction methods are used across the line, but the warranty differs massively. 1 year for these new ones. I assume its still lifetime on the "proper" ones with the hand paint? Im mean sure charge more for hand paint, but dont drop the warranty you are so famous for. "back in the day" you could buy any used vex and get it fixed free anytime. Thats not the case now. to me it screams mass produced and lower QC / QA coupled with perhaps farming shit out. So the warranty is lost, but the price remains or goes up.

Anyway thats my british 2p anyway.

So you're saying I should double the price of my 7 knob AB-Synth?

Yes.

Pls no.

Seriously tho, I can't imagine spending that much on a single fuzz pedal unless it was something I was really after, like a meathead or something. And even then, I could just have a clone done for half the price, with mods.

I want shit that sounds cool and won't cost me both my testicles. DOD had the right idea.
