Probably either a Tonebender version of some sort or a Fuzz Face. Maybe one of the 2-transistor Tonebenders: the mk1.5 or the Vox Italian-made one. Or maybe a Vox Distortion Booster plug in.

Fuzz wise BYOC makes a Mk.II Tone Bender kit with NOS transistors so I might give that a go.

No problems accessing that site, works for me.

It does say this though:

"New website is coming together, slowly, but surely. Should be up offically in early March."

Those of you who guessed Fuzz Face were on the money. Remember I said I was thinking of emailing Bryn Haworth? I remembered, too. So I did and he replied.
I was using an early 60s Olympic White Strat with a rosewood neck and a regular non treble boost VOX AC30 with a Fuzz Face. I remember it well!
Dude is a boss.
