the sugar boost has 2 knobs, someone was talking about a range knob, i guess thats like the fat/thin knob on the sugar boost

it takes all the low end out if you put it after a buffer, i have found. really the only way you can use it after the buffer is to have the knob all the way on the "fat" side

I do indeed have a Black Forest. Maybe I will try it in that way. As soon as I got it I cranked the piss out of it and have yet to back the gain down again :doom:

I've definitely considered it. Seems to be the TGP answer for any and everything right now.

Seriously though, they are a great Swiss Army knife if you add a 'Range' knob onto them.

I just got this Fender PA 100 and I didn't think it could get any more Fendery on the cleans, but then I plugged in the Rangemaster and was like WUT

Wait wait wait... let me get this straight...
Rangemaster pedals don't have a range knob?

How do we make the black forest clean?

Anyhow, get a supermoon chrome. Super comfortably numb solo cleans.

Many treble boosters have mastered a very small range, yes.

Oh duhh. Too much doom, don't even consider treble much.

Look for a used Sparkle Motion? I almost never turn mine off.
One other thought I had was what about a compressor? I have never found one I needed, but it may do some of what you are describing with making things more chimy? Something like the pigtronix or analog man stuff?

Haha! I believe that you are doing it right, sir.

There is surprisingly very little to no gain down the very bottom of the gain knob. Then you get the eq nice and tasty, maybe don't go past the fourth fac setting?
Vid, that about right to your ear?
Ross style comps are nice and cheap and do the job as well, as hyphen mentioned.

Forgot about the Sparkle Motion. I've been thinking about getting compressor - never tried one, but it seems that I like cleans that really have the power amp working a bit, so it seems like a compressor might approximate some of that sound.

True - tried out the Black Forest at no gain last night. Sounds good, but is soooooo much better as a balls out fuzz.

What do you feel like compressors do for your tone with humbuggies?

I don't know why I'm never satisfied
