Someone gave me an MP3 of a slowed-down "Baby One More Time," and for quite some time I thought it was a cover by Type O. It's astonishing how much Britney sounds like Pete if you just pitch-shift her voice down a fifth or so.

Saw these guys open for Artic monkeys. They were cool. Another cool song by them is Monk. The singer/drummer is the current bassist for QOTSA. He was fun to watch on stage when I recently saw them.

Of the versions I've heard, Tori Amos' is the closest to a doom rendition - slow, stark, minimalist. And of course we've already got Pallbearer's precedent for doom versions of Billie Holiday.

I dug this way more than I should have, but then again I always had a thing for Debbie Harry. Very cool.

You should really check out their song monk. I couldn't necessarily get into any other of their recorded songs but monk really grooves. They were great live.
