I have the active one
Maybe it's because I just don't like active basses and it needs a setup but I much prefer my very bottom grade $40 p bass copy

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm gonna goto guitar center and try some of these out. I'm a bit weary about a active but who knows?

I think I'll do the BEAD thing again. I'm beginning to think it doesn't really matter which strings I get or what parts--I end up adjusting everything through pedals or preamp anyway. Anyway who cares. So that leaves me with deciding by looks & feel of the bass.
