The 400+ is indeed awesome.

The Strategy is INSANE. Just givin you some other options bro - the KT88's are beastly.

It does look nice. Though, it is definitely twice my price range.

Also, am I the only one that doesn't really see the appeal of hovercraft amps?

Cl 400 also has 8 6550/kt88's (your choice) in the power section. Clean channel is modeled after an svt, crunch is modeled after blackface bassman. I got mine for $400. only drawback is they don't pop up all the time, and it weighs 98 lbs.

I don't really either, to be honest. I mean their marketing is great and their amps look nice, but with a little bit of research you could do the same mods and not pay a few hundred dollars for them?

Or, like, just buy an amp that didn't have to be modded to sound good for like, way less? Sovteks, Traynors, and Laneys are all not expensive for the most part. I just feel Hovercraft's PPW (price per watt) ratio is off, considering they're just shy of Science prices to get anything past 20w. And, if I'm finna spend $1200, I'm just gonna nut up and buy a Science for a bit more.

Yeah, a vintage SVT would be sexy.

And I like Hovercraft amps. I don't own one, but I'd really like to try out one of their 20 watt offerings.

I like em to, and I hate to discourage anyone from building new amps to the old specs and construction style. But there are so many old amps that with a little tlc are as good or better than what is available new that I can't justify it. The most I paid for any of my amps was the simms watts, and after a trip to get overhauled I am still under a grand for an amazing amp with gobs of power and transformers that are not available to current builders. (someone correct me if I am wrong about that) It makes it hard for me to justify 1500 - 3000 for a new amp built to similar standards.

You can get Partridge-style transformers built by Mercury Magnets, but they're decidedly not cheap:

I didn't realize you cleaned up the Simms-Watts for less than a G...

I hate you.

You like how loud your AC30 is yeah?
There's an AC100 head + cab for sale in Lewisville, for around your price?
I have no idea what they sound like but it's bound to be loud. :idk:

From what I've heard, the AC100 is pretty drastically different than the AC30, in more ways than just having a different power section. Not to say I'm not interested, just, you know.

Slave these.

But, wait, what? I mean, getting some power amps would be cool, but I dunno, I just want different things, y'know? I've been tempted to go down the route of getting a shitton of CS-800s but I'm coming to the realization that volume isn't entirely all about more watts. One of my bands is actually dedicated to only using a 4x12 for guitar and a 2x15 for bass vi and trying to be as loud as possible with only those cabs. Which, has lead me to settle on a beta lead for that band to give me obnoxious amounts of midrange.

I dunno, maybe I'm tired of lugging heavy shit at the moment. Who knows.

Being completely content with all of your current set ups makes wanting new things kinda aimless at times.

Should I buy a Traynor and a really, really expensive pedal?
