Labels by far after seeing those two, any way you can put the labels over a powder coat finish? Otherwise I'd stick with the labels.

I'm gonna side with Pumpkin guy here on this one and say that the labels are groovier. They give a kind of minimalistic, confusingly attractive vibe to the pedal. That and the crazier the effect is, the cooler the design seems in a strange contrasting kind of way. But what do I know?

That's the thing about labels--the color and details you can get in are sooo nice!

also i had guessed the phonogram (Gramaphone?) would be the new High five (Now "HI-FI" ve) plus the color continuity from the kitty, but now its an overdrive instead of a boost!!!
DO it!

I voted labels because your style is very distinctive. Looking at the pedal, I know right away that it's a Mellowtone. And, I'm a cheap bastard.

i have no real preference, other than to say do what works best for you and keeps your stuff unique.

All your designs could be done with screen prints, without changing a thing. The halftones and everything, in fact when I first saw your designs I thought they were great screen prints. If you're hiring someone else to do it, they would charge more for more colors, but most of your stuff would only be three anyways.

I like the labels, I like the 'home-made' look and I like the unpainted cases...
....to me they are part of what mellowtone is, and with the labels it's easy enough to do them in different colours and things (like the recent B/W wolf computers) which is always fun.

in theory yes, but the problem is my designs would require 5 screens. unless i used white powder coated cases I could use 4 screens. and i dont know of someone who can get both tight tight registration and good resolution to achieve the current label designs in a screenprint. i mean im sure its out there, but probably cost prohibitive in small quantity

I only counted at least 3, and the only thing that I changed was the inner square color. Which, if you really wanted you could do halftones to achieve (a fairly dense halftone over the white with the same outer square color could achieve close to the same effect). You would lay down a white base (or paint a white base and save a screen, letting you get a different letter color with the same amount of screens) a color, and then black. I suppose the text is different so 4 at most. At worst you would loose the ability for customers to choose colors. To get better registration you could always print it to a water based decal, that way the printer wouldn't have to worry about arguing with the case(but would have to worry with more expensive inks). The positive would be that you could easily pack a T-shirt with every pedal
I spent a few months working for a screenprinting company, and have done some on my own time. Your designs would make lovely screen prints.
Chances are though, with your smallish productions (from what I understand) labels are probably better. But on the flipside, because of the (assumed) smallish productions screen printing nice designs would also be feasible, more so if you learned to do it yourself.
That said if the labels work, why change anything?
