flat seems to be the new design for cables. i recently picked up these swedish-designed earphones for my iphone:

and here's a cross-section of generic flat audio cable:

Haha, swedes are notoriously trendy in what we do. Not trendy as in cool, just as in following trends. Practically I can see flat cables being less prone to knotting because of the torque required to twist the flat cable. But I only barely passed first year physics so it's entirely possible that that whole line of reasoning was complete crap.

flat makes no sense to me when i think about shielding...
and a guitar cable needs shielding. i don't want to listen to russian radio while jamming.

edit: goroth has a buffer before AND after his effects. so maybe the doesn't give a shit

I'm guessing the wire inside is shielded, and the rubber coating is flat. Tempted to cut one apart and see what it is. Probably heading down to the rehearsal room on Thursday - will take a couple of cables and run a shit load of fuzz through them at 100+ dB and see if I get any Mexican long wave radio action.

But yes, buffers everywhere = no shits given :)

I can see flat being a really good idea when you have a lot of different conductors inside a wire, like ethernet. But for just a tip and shield, I don't see how it would be advantageous. But regardless, it certainly looks cool.

I would think that flat has more chance of breaking from pinching or bending it too much

put a few of these on my board. they're pretty cheap, their profile is small and the cable twists nicely. i hope they don't break easily, because i love them already.

Yeah but I'm easy on cables. I hate redoing my board, so even total crap cables work pretty well for me. I've only ever had problems with lava cable. But I like em, went out and bought 20 more to redo the gig board.

:idk:

I mean, you can't resolder them, so that sucks, but they're so cheap I can have a few spares floating round anyway. If I have any left over I'll dissect one. Won't be for a while though.

Where can I possibly get some of these in the United States of America?

I think I'll ask Scott @ Axe if he will get some of these.
I'm having more and more trouble with my solderless plugs.

Yeah, please ask Scott.

I found this place, but know nothing about them:
