Should've made it an inlay of Lloyd Loar and Orville Gibson making out.

The local GC near me has a few of the LPJs on the wall to try out. They're pretty nice for the money honestly. They have these new "J" models for around $399-$499 (for the SGs at least), really good price on a Nashville built Gibson. They saved money on things like the satin finish, no grain filler, uncovered pickups. Pretty similar to the old faded models from a few years back but even less money.

They also have the "Special" line which is priced kinda crazy, $899 or something. They have the Vintage Gloss/Semi-gloss finish and different pickups. I can't see any other reason for that ridic price jump though.

Only changes I made to mine were the bridge, tailpiece, then added a '61-style small pickguard. I can't stand the Nashville bridge on SGs, not enough clearance for the stings so the tailpiece rides too high. Found some conversion studs and threw and ABR-1 on instead. Much better setup. Oh, and those Zebra HBs are alnico V magnets, not IV like I stated earlier. Here's a stock pick of the exact one I ordered from Sweetwater:

LOL so true. SJG works even better.

Nope. Nope before clicking, nope after clicking.

They charge vintage-prices on many of their "high end" new instruments which still suffer QC issues, and that alone puts me off from them.
But I dislike new instruments, in general. If it aint been in a pawn shop then it cant play the blues, rock, punk, noise, doom. :|:
Not that it makes sense (to me) to use high end instruments to credibly play those styles...

Unless going the Brian May repurpose route and converting a coffee table...into a new radical rock machine :excellent:

Every time Gibson releases new shit I always feel like they're really disorganized or confused or a committee of white collar MBA bros decided everything. What exactly is your angle, Gibson?

It's especially weird to me because I grew up thinking that owning a Gibson would be the Ultimate Shit, but now I've been repelled by pretty much everything they do for the past 10 years at least. If it's affordable, the quality control is abysmal. If it's a great guitar, it's prohibitively expensive.

I've picked on up and played a note or two at my local store, they are chunkyish feeling.. they remind me of a ripper mixed with a G&L but I didn't plug it in :idk:

I'll probably pickup a used one at some point.
The 2013 models are going for reasonable prices on eBay but they didn't have the finish I want in 2013. :(

Woops never mind I just looked at the melody maker and they were talking about "new and improved p90s". Arrrrrggg I don't know what they did to p90s but knowing how gibson likes to "improve" stuff I think they may have fucked them up. :grumpy:

Maybe I'm just a skeptical Scotty, but anytime a company (who no longer seems to "get it") repackages a product as new & improved; my first thought is the *improvement* refers to reduction of manufacturing costs and overhead...through typical outsourcing and cost-cutting shell games...while maintaining price point and increasing the profit margin.

Patterns emerge...
