Re: Anyone ever try bowing a guitar?
funny thing is that i really want to try some of this stuff as well, but my friend does it with a hi-hat stand part or an actual bow and our other guitarist does these things with a metal slide, so i'd totally look like a copycat

You could try playing your guitar "fixed" with something.....metal between the strings and fretboard, and tap it for monstrous osr light effect, and as well slide it under the strings etc. lots of options.DarkAxel wrote:funny thing is that i really want to try some of this stuff as well, but my friend does it with a hi-hat stand part or an actual bow and our other guitarist does these things with a metal slide, so i'd totally look like a copycat

Keji Haino did a set where he had rubber bands attached to all of his strings and just kept strumming until they all broke. It ruled

Re: Anyone ever try bowing a guitar?
Fixed, or prepared in advance. Let's say you take a screwdriver long enough to cross the fretboard fretwise, and you weave it over/under the strings...all of them? Five? Three? Anyways, the thicker the screwdriver is the more the pitch of the raised strings is going to be. So maybe you use the handle from a spoon instead? Or a drumstick? When you touch the handle of the screwdriver it's going to wiggle up and down depending on how hard you flick it. A tiny touch can go a long way with some high gain fuzz as the strings are pulled up and slap back down repeatedly against whatever material you used for the sound you want. I like to set up near the highest frets, but everywhere is awesome. So ok you,ve learned how to manipulate, maybe had to change your tuning? Now you,ve got a piece of metal, say a metal file which is going to offer alot more textured sound than a smooth screwdriver, and you,ve been making ripples and waves with it....why not grab ahold and pull up? while sliding it up or down the fretboard. You might even find spots on the neck that are harmonically rich and you,ll maybe stop at these spots so you can make some more ripples of thunder.DarkAxel wrote:I'm not really sure what you mean, but colour me interested... care to elaborate?
That,s just one way you go with fixing a guitar. A fun way too

Re: Anyone ever try bowing a guitar?
I don't with an actual bow but have the textured metal, wood/etc stuff to do prepared guitar wankery on demand.
And I've abused ebows so much they've been returned in pieces to the factory to be rebuilt, they do honor the warranty.
Which is good because I'm partial to the old, simple black era ones without multiple levels and fancy crunk.
