And DanDub or LaoWiz can etch ANYTHING you want

I know you just kind of forgot to mention me, but I can etch anything you want to... :)

Also, just an FYI, there are some people putting out PLL type fuzzes. Check out Industrialectric. He's got some gnarly shit.
No disrespect I just talk to Dan every other day and when I first saw this pedal I thought Loawiz like a lot of other people probably did it looks like his kind of Time Machine

Whatever happened to the Dimehead PLL clone? I see videos but don't see it on their site (which is in German so maybe I'm just missing it)

They have a facebook, I guess it's still on there.
I had one but I couldn't get it to sound anything like Kayzer's video's so I sent it back, it was as if the harmony sounds didn't really work or track and the fuzz wasn't as crushing as the standalone PLL Fuzz from KO Amps / Industrialectric.

That's crazy. You played around with it a bunch I'm sure. Did you get offered a replacement or get an explanation?

No, Dirk said he tested it and it was working as it should before he sent it to me, he was so kind to give me a refund though.
I mean, the octave down did work but I had to turn the divider volume almost all the way up to sound mean enough for my tastes and when switched up the multiplier only seemed to fuck up the mean octave sound on the divider (I know they are wired in conjunction) and it didn't give any upper harmony at all, just plain squeely sounds on most settings.
Switching the divider up into the lower register to make up for the multiplier in range the unit couldn't really cope anymore and lost tracking even more, so basically I had to put the multiplier on I think the first, second and third setting to keep it sounding okay.
The only way I could get the unit to really work was when I picked the notes really really softly close to the neck with my thumb.
On the other hand I'm not the best with some effects, sometimes they're really just not for me so that could also be it, I'm not sure.
I have a MI Audio Pollyanna now and the -1 + -2 oct down on that thing just sounds a hundred times meaner, nastier and fatter than the Dimehead PLL so I say fuck it.
I'm still curious about your take on the PLL though!

Hi,

I do not know why Tristan did not come to the right with our PLL. All the other users were enthusiastic about it.
He got his money back. I have his unit re-checked - everything as it should. :)

I think he had wrong notions. it's just not polyphonic. No DSP, 100% pure analog. You can't use the PLL as an octaver for your normal sound. You have to play with it :!!!:

Ah, okay, it's good to hear you thought it was as it should when you got it back.
I didn't have any wrong notions though, I'm completely sure about that.
One thing I can think of is that you might have tweaked it to sound the best with high output pickups or modern type humbuckers maybe as that seems to be the main difference between my setup and Kayzer's setup.
Another thing is that it sounded a bit better to me going direct in on the computer, a little bit more brutal, still the Pollyanna just kills it I'd say, if you'd put the two next to eachother you'd definitely notice that difference too.
I don't think it's a problem that exists only in the Dimehead PLL though, I think I can at least put my finger on two weak spots in the circuit that make the PLL sound less stable and fat and mean as it should or could be.
First of all is the wiring of the Divider in conjunction with the Multiplier, it's a cool way to get more range out of the box but it would be even cooler to also be able to switch the multiplier completely out of the circuit.
Second the tone control is quite weak sounding, it sounds kinda like the tone control on a guitar, not something you'd put on a synth type pedal in my opinion.

Tristan,

Your assessment of the controls sounds right. On my breadboard version I have to turn the divider up all the way and I also only like the first 3 or 4 settings of the mulitiplier. When its all mixed together I love it. I would probably never use the multiplier or divider without the fuzz mixed in.

Hey Dude, thanks, now at least I know I wasn't going completely crazy or anything! :D
I usually had some fuzz mixed in as well but I suspect the fuzz side of the Dimehead PLL being a bit on the dull / mellow side in comparison to the KO Amps / Industrialectric PLL Fuzz didn't help much in that sense either.
Top it off with a weak tone control, that is inherent to the PLL design if I'm not mistaken, that could explain my sincere disappointment when I had the chance to really get hands on with the Dimehead PLL.
That and the fact that, whichever way I set it up, I couldn't get any of those harmony sounds out of it like on this video (which was posted after I returned mine):

I think the industrialelec is a modded front end fuzz section modded for obliteration. The PLL chip and the logic chips need a clean square wave for better tracking. The fuzz on the one I have going is relatively smooth and not too bombastic, as well. I've thought about adding some stuff to fuck up the fuzz after it hits the logic to make it nastier.

The tone control is a pot and a cap that rolls off some highs...

Right, I see.
The clips that intothegroove did comparing his Squarewave Generator / PLL Fuzz to his original PLL sounded quite bang on to me though, that original PLL didn't sound too polite to me either, interesting.
Then again maybe it turns out the original PLL is not so much the nasty beast it appeared to be and it is actually a bit on the polite side after all.
Hmm, seems you're cooking up a nice recipe there buddy, consider me intrigued!

Who knows if ill ever finish it. My plan was to have it done by the end of last summer!

Does anyone have any examples of a PLL being used on a recording? Curious how/if people actually use this thing, or just stand around going BZZZZORGLYTH000TSSZZXQGHTTTTT all day.
