I think he played charvel for years before, using the strat style ones... And since fender owns charvel.... I suppose It was a natural shift for him to move to modded fenders :P

I was about to post this to ask if I was missing something or if Fender really was insane.
Looks wise, I don't think its too bad. But not for $1700. Also:

Just like the guitarist of converge. He has all these sweet guitars and puts EMGs in everything, so I guess it's just a look thing, I just don't understand EMG life though, so I shouldn't speak on the matter.

That's the one thing that has always driven me mad about Kurt Ballou. But whatever. If it works for him more power to him.
Buddy of mine bought a brand new Explorer and he mentioned EMGs and I was just like...

I will say this about EMG's, they pretty much sound the same no matter what they are in. So if you want consistency.....
Weather or not that's a "Good" sound is debatable.
