Pre amp and master not that loud. Usually it gets dirty around 4 to 5. I have EL34 but the tech who put them in was confident that was they originally had them. At least they were labelled on the inside sticker

That doesn't sound right... You should be able to get much louder before dirt settles in...It sounds like something somewhere has taken a crap. You might want to have a look at some of the opamps.
But yeah, 6CA7 is definitely the tube you want. The Musicman amps are run at really high plate voltages, and 6CA7's handle them better, plus stay a little cleaner and get a little louder I think.

Dunno! I like how it sounds though loud, I don't think I'll worry about it :) I think I'll actually upgrade my cabinet before I buy a new amp though. What do you like through your musicman? I've found I like 12 in speakers more in general compared to 10s. I haven't owned very many cabs

I didn't fall in love with tens through mine. 15" speakers are where it is at for me! I love my 215 and my 115, my rig is so ridiculously powerful sounding it's scary. I am also using a 412 for my mid/treble tones, so I can't give a very accurate review of those.

If I remember correctly, the 6CA7 was/is the domestic version of the EL34. Both should work in your amp, but it has been said that the 6CA7 can sometimes offer a little more headroom and bass. I can't verify that, just something I've run across when reading Music Man stuff that pertained more to guitars than bass.
Seem to recall something about people having problems with current 6CA7's at some point too.

I think you're right to at least try another speaker/cab before buying a new amp.

I dunno...buying another amp is a pretty good plan too. Also, Rusty Box tone =/= Musicman tone.

My vote is for what Mudfuzz said. Old Crown. I had one that I used with a Rusty Box for a while.

Yeah the rusty is way different than the MM IN terms of sound. I think I'm gonna invest in a nice cab next. I was thinking about trying a Bergatino or something.
