I cranked the gain to max and cranked it up, a minute later a kid walked over and asked what pedal I was using... I loved telling him "I'm not " and told him that the old peaveys might not look the coolest but sound absolutely killer, he was blown away.
The Ultra is closer in relationship to the 5150 stuff than the VTM120/Butcher. Still an awesome sounding amp though. Also, Badmotorfinger by Soundgarden is a great example of the VTM120.
I had thought Thayil moved onto Boogies by then? I know Ultramega OK was VTM for sure.
I think really early Kyuss (Wretch-era) was VTM as well. It's hard to tell in the video, but the logo looks Peavey. Could be a Mace or an Ultra or something too:

Brilliant description, by the way. Parker may be able to chime in, but I'm pretty sure they didn't use pedals. Unfortunately missed seeing them due to shitty circumstances on every trip they made to the west coast.
haha old band used to cover it, I was listening to it while biking to work ON MY BIRTHDAY THE DAY I GOT BACK FROM MY HONEYMOON on monday and seriously wanted to bike lock every cop car I saw, so, you know. Also hey I missed them due to being in australia.
misterstomach wrote:It's true. No pedals. They just ran straight into vtm 120's. They are about the perfect example of those amps at their finest.
yup, they were why I bought one. Ditched it later for a beta lead but will pick another up one day.
Also, an old band of mine played some shows with baroness around 2005, I think around the time their second lp came out, and at the time they were both using vtm 120's. I'm not crazy about the music of baroness (although they were very nice dudes) but I thought their guitar tone was really good at the time and I know a lot of people around here like them.

Okay I can't believe I've never listened to His Hero Is Gone before. Because that was killer. I love crusty stuff like that like Masakari and I want more. More. Mooooooooreeeeeeeeee
I always liked Tragedy more than His Hero Is Gone. I don't know if they used VTM's for Tragedy though. But Baroness did use VTM's up until a little after the Red Album I believe.
There was a VTM 60 for a great price about an hour from me but it was too close to xmas and I couldn't make it out there. Someone swooped it by the time I was ready to head out there.
Im up in idaho. The last one i saw in the area was almost $600
Lol. I'd never pay that much. $300 tops probably. $600 is just straight silly. There's a dude trying to sell a MIG100H in my area for $1050. Beyond ridiculous.

I don't agree with your description but that record was a game changer for me. Especially that first song.
