I don't think that's a fair comparison.

Ok, I've always liked vocoding (mmm Cynic..., and that one tune Meshuggah did) but how do you connect this up? Maybe I'm just too tired or unintelligent, but I don't get this:
NORMAL BYPASS mode: when a standard mono guitar cable is plugged into the Iron Lung's output jack, while the Iron Lung is set to bypass, your unaffected instrument is output through the OUTPUT jack and the effect is muted. In effect mode the dry guitar is muted and only the effected vocal signal is passed through the OUTPUT jack.
SPLIT BYPASS mode: when a TRS Insert Cable is plugged into the OUTPUT jack before applying power. In bypass mode, the instrument is output on the TIP of the OUTPUT jack and the vocal is output on the RING of the OUTPUT jack. In effect mode, the effect will be present on both the Tip and Ring of the insert cable. NB: in order to use Split Bypass, the insert cable must be plugged into the Iron Lung's Output jack before applying power to the Iron Lung.
Do I need a separate mic to run just the vocoder on for normal bypass - and the vocals are run through my amp (and thus eq'd as a guitar would be, resulting in good/crap?? sound??)
Or do I just want to run split mode, with some sort of breakout thing?

This is starting to get complicated. This
is really hard to read, isn't it?
I do get 'manual blind' after about 12 seconds which doesn't help.
All the capital letters make me think they're shouting at me...
I think the first bit is saying 'switch effect in/out as usual'.
And the second is if you want to split the vocals and guitar.... Breakout box needed, if you want to do this, but it may be possible...
?

This thread is wholly devoid of Iron Lungs.

Aqua Lung?
Turns whatever you play on you're guitar into a massive flute solo.

this is why i sold the orange one, it was even more complicated ..... and sounded pretty shit with the guitar as the carrier signal ....
ok, reading it again with mono output it plays guitar (or keyboard presumably) signal on bypass, and the guitar+vocal vocoded signal on effect
and using a trs stereo output cable it splits guitar to one and vocal to the other, so you can run your vocal to a separate amp.
and then on effect will send the guitar+vocal vocoded signal to both

Then twenty years later you win an award for 'Best Metal Album of the Year'.

To be fair, it's definitely better than that Metallica record.

That is certainly true. I haven't heard a single Metallica song that I've liked.

It's definitely in my top five favorite animated shows. It also has kept this notion of someday acquiring a wallaby for a pet nagging in the back of my mind.

(Maybe could keep my pet wallaby entertained while I get some work done)
