Word. I used to be all "B-b-b-b-but there's no depth knob...!" but fuck that shit. Who cares? Shit sounds good.
okay i was reluctant to make a new thread but screw it.
so, i can be biased sometimes, so i had my girlfriend asses the pedals too. shes a guitarist as well, and had a band for a couple years but they havent been playing much lately.
anyway,
THE GOOD:THE BAD:
- Light
- Compact
- Overall good quality
- Standard 9V jack on the back
- LOOKIN PRETTY SEXY, THAR
- True bypass (if youre into that sorta thing)
okay, that bad is pretty subjective, but i ****ing HATE super bright LEDs. if i wanna get blinded while playing a show, its gonna be from all the hipster babes taking pictures from the crowd so they can make fun of me and my band in their hyper relevant blog.
- Super bright LEDs
Preamp 250 Overdrive:
I had one of the reissues a while back, and i dug it, but it was kinda flat and i dunno, i didnt really feel compelled to hang on to it. plus it had the weird 1/8" power input, and i only put up with that shit on EHX pedals.
right off the bat, im stoked with the standard barrel style 9v jack. and its on the back. awesome. i'm also into how light the pedals are themselves. at first i thought maybe the enclosures were cheap crap metal, but they dont appear to be.
okay so i plugged it in to my Ampeg Gemini I with Celestion Vintage 30. this sounds wayyyyyyyyyyy better than the yellow reissue i had. better low end, thicker distortion, more range in the gain knob. i also like how it cleans up really well with the gain knob low and you can use it as a boost. it has a nice character to it. thick is the word of the day i guess. it sounded equally good with my Harmony Archtone with a Dearmond Gold Foil as well as my girlfriends Danelectro U2. the one with the wood bridge, of course. come on now.
Phasor 201:
ok so im not into phasers really that much, but my girlfriend is. she plays like, garagey surf rock retro stuff. so shes all about it. she thinks it sounds kinda 80's (in a good way) but i think its got more of a 70's vibe. i really liked how it wasnt a deep swooshy in your face linkin park/other crap 90's band kind of sound. its subtle in a very good way. my favorite settings would be all the way down and all the way up. its got this really nice sweep when its really slow. sounds great with reverb. and when its cranked its almost like a vibrato. i just really love how it doesnt totally take over and spray easy cheese all over your sound. with overdrive in front of it, it gets bigger but still doesnt take over and squash your sound. so, i think i can find some good use for it. if my girlfriend ever lets me use it.
so far, both of these pedals are really really well done. they didnt go nuts with them, they just kinda brought these classic circuits to modern times. not only do they sound good, but the finish is really great and you gotta check it out in person, really.
i gotta hand it to Tom (DigiTechRep) for pulling this off. ever since he let me in on what he was up to (after signing an NDA of course) i've been really anxious to see how it turned out. well, it turned out AWESOME.
the Preamp 250 goes where my micro amp currently is so i can take it to practice and gig with it. then i can give you more of my thoughts.

I wonder if they'll be able to reissue the other old school DOD's.
