I like something bright into the muff to make it cut through. Something like a rangemaster or other treble booster.
That or something octavey.

Well I'm using the "middle fancy" crybaby... something like "135Q" or something. I like it a lot for guitar, but it tends to suck bass out noticably with a baritone or bass. Looking into a bass wah...

Moogerfooger freqbox with big muff can yield 8-bit crushing texture/sounds. add moogerfooger ringmod for even more extreme textures

My favorite thing to stack my muff with is an Ibanez modulation delay set for a fast delay with high repeats. Makes the muff sound even more massive than it sounds on its own.
