Thanks. I have a Wem Pep Box clone by North Effects, which I really like, but I just don't use it so much any more. Nice texture though, and it's bright, but not in a bad way.

I would personally stay away from Basic Audio. I had a custom pedal done with them that I sold immediatly after I received it.
I tried the Fuzz-Stang Mk II, it's awesome!!!
You should also look at the Mid-Fi Peace gun.

Why stay away from basic audio? I've currently got the Pale Rider, which is stellar build quality. I thought I'd love it, and it's great. Kinda-sorta has an FY-2 vibe to it, but I find it just a little to "polite", smooth and lacking a certain something in the "body" of it's tone.

Stay away for custom job or if you purchase directly from John at least.
Custom job took forever and doesn't look and sound like they should.

First negative feedback I've heard to be honest... oh well. I doubt I'd be able to afford the price of a custom job anyway.

The FZ-1 and Fuzzrite are different circuits.
There aren't a whole lot of FZ-1 clones out there because it's much more difficult to select transistors for the FZ-1 than a Fuzz Face or something. I have an FZ-1 clone from Jerms and I wouldn't say it's a one trick pony. The attack control is very effective and it really responds to picking dynamics and guitar pickups/controls.
You might like the Jordan Bosstone

Honest moment: I was all like OOOOOH when you had "Creepy Fingers" in your BST title.
IT WAS NOT THE RIGHT ONE.

Ha ha, sorry! The Creepy Face is awesome too, just not quite as awesome. The Mutantes isn't going anywhere ever (although I've said that before about things that I certainly don't own anymore).

Well, at least now we know who's got dibs on it.

I have the BA Zippy. Possibly my fave fuzz. It can do everything you're describing. Thick but lots of harmonics going on - def not smooth, yet still musical. Also love the Spooky Tooth for that 60s vibe.

I love the Fuzz Stang MK2. LOVE IT. It's based on the aforementioned Sam Ash Fuzzstainer. Quite versatile & definitely distinctive.
That or the Mutantes, which I have been lusting over as well. The Gooby Electronics Bag of Dicks is a pretty straightforward Jordan Bosstone clone & might be up yr alley as well.

Those rich scrappy 60s fuzz tones are my favourite and I generally use an original FY2 but germanium and silicon fuzzrites, fz1a, kay fuzztone, wem pep box and the fy6 are all, as has been said, well worth checking out.
