I assume by the last two posts that my honesty is being called into question. OK I'll talk...
Clip The Clippers!
Remove clipping diodes D1 and D2. They're in the top left of this pic, kinda behind the wires. That's it!

Hmmm. I may try this. I did the diezel mod, and it still had way too much scoop and gain for me.

A caveat: the controls are WAY different and more sensitive with this mod. It does that starved-voltage thing where it splutters out and has no sustain if you turn the gain down a lot, and the tone controls are a lot more complex after modding. Oh and when you switch it off, for some reason it is kind of still gated until you strum hard for a sec, then it goes back to normal bypass mode, albeit a little soft in volume if my ears are hearing it correctly. Weird, but I have no problem with that. There may be a solution that I don't have the faculties to produce. I use this in an effects loop so any weirdness when switched off is not an issue, since it's always in On mode.

Solution to both: Starcaster Distortion, if you can find one cheap and used since the supply seems to have dried up. Metal Zone clone without the buffered bypass switching. It's hardwire bypass but not true bypass if it's like the Chorus in that line. I'd imagine with a 3PDT and the diode mod that you can get the mod-y goodness with a clean bypass of the sound when needed.

Can you literally clip the diode off the pcb, or do you have to de-solder them?

I heated the solder points with the iron and pulled them loose. It's easier to replace them that way.

Interesting! I'll keep my eyes open for a cheap used one.
