Scott Lucas from Local H used to use a guitar in which he installed a bass pickup between the two guitar pickups and it was only across the two bassiest strings. From there it went out a separate output jack that he custom installed, to an octave pedal, and then to a bass amp, while his guitar pickups went to his usual pedalboard to a guitar amp.

You can do something similar without installing a pickup, just breakout the signal before you start adding dirt to it, and eq/octave the bass signal separately.

and-1oct and dry to bass amp
mix at 50/50 is pretty tame but full

I got inspired seeing a video of Scott Lucas' setup and am working on doing this now. So pumped to get this project going.
But in essence, there are a ton of ways to make a single guitar sound huge. The only question here is how much stuff do you want to buy to make it happen...And as usual, the answer is as much as possible.

But I think it's just a matter of how you approach it.
If you're writing songs while thinking, this is where a bass or keyboard or skin flute should go, then you might be shooting yourself in the foot. Maybe you already know this and I'm sure you were more so asking from an equipment standpoint, but just my 2 cents

i had a two person drums & guitar band back in i think 05. one of my favorite projects ever. chick drumming & i had only 6 weeks to throw it together & record an 8 song album & play two shows before she was off to grad school in cali. she's not a heavy hitter, played more dance beat type stuff. my rig was a mess of fx though, and i split the signal to both a guitar rig and a bass rig starting w/ a whammy dropping me an octave. no stereo on the guitar & it was still plenty for us. i was using an RC-50 for a bunch of looping though too, am sure that helped w/ some of it.

In my last band I did this one of two ways. I would split my guitar signal into a guitar amp and pog into a rusty box straight to the pa. Or I would run a bass vi into both without the pog. Both seemed to work well for getting a big sound with chords and octaves and such.

Man I need to watch this thread closely. I play in a 3-piece with a drummer and keyboardist and my sound is pretty damn thin compared to a stereo keyboard setup.
Pre- and Post-dirt reverb seems to help thicken the sound, especially if the tone knobs are set quite low.
I think I need to start running two amps though, or at least two cabs in different positions.

Multiple amps FTW.

Cannot emphasise the importance of the hard-hittinf, energetic drummer. Every time I listen to the dodos I'm always amazed by how much the drums fill out the sound
