yep, I am going with Prymaxe, but even they don't have most of these suggestions. hopefully I can find some of these makers in a local store to cover what I couldn't get online.Chankgeez wrote:Find an online retailer with a good return policy.

Ooh, the Supercollider is badass as mentioned above. Muffy but very tweakable tone wise. Capable of super high gain. That reminds me, I ordered that new '71 version, vintage spec's, wonder when that will finally arrive...

Supercollider is a fantastic muff circuit.
Best bet is to find one used.

hmmm I guess I don't understand what makes a Fuzz Face a Fuzz Face... I tried listening to a few, but can't really "get" the basic character.
is Fairfield Circuitry's Four Eyes close to either of them? Walrus Audio's Jupiter?

2 transistors, in a circuit that's very interactive with gtr vol knob and cleans up to overdrive as you roll [it] back.uyotg wrote:hmmm I guess I don't understand what makes a Fuzz Face a Fuzz Face... I tried listening to a few, but can't really "get" the basic character.

Splatty anger with Fuzz and gtr vol knobs dimed.
Bluesy blooms with Fuzz dimed and gtr vol around 7.
Also its origin is rooted in the Tonebender mk 1.5; another 2 transistor design that displays similar tonal/response characteristics.

Re: fuzz face and big muff derivative suggestions
The Four Eyes is a very unique beast of a fuzz, not really similar to anything I've tried before. Gain assigned to the EQ controls individually with the adjustable frequency range. Many sounds within from normal to incredibly weird at more extreme freq settings. The exp option let's you control that weirdness on the fly. Cool fuzz for sure but wouldn't be my go to for FF or muff tones.uyotg wrote:hmmm I guess I don't understand what makes a Fuzz Face a Fuzz Face... The Jupiter has been described as a "muff-like fuzz" by the builder in the past.

Re: fuzz face and big muff derivative suggestions
No worries dude. Any excuse to listen to Jimi is a good one.
The Grey 'Stache is another awesome big muff pedal. Doesn't go ridiculously heavy hi-gain like the Supercollider or the Musket, but it does a really lovely take on some classic muff sounds.
Also, I know it gets a lot of ridicule from real Fuzz Face heads, but I played one of the Dunlop 90's/early 00's reissues (in the big red circle enclosure) a while ago and loved it.
