My favorite song of theirs would have to be "Brown Water" off of Courtesy and Goodwill.
I can't listen to it without getting the chills.
As D.o.S. said, it's definitely an unsettling album.
If you haven't heard this song yet, I would say it's worth a few minutes to listen to it:

What I think you mean by inconsistent is what I like about them. It seems like they just do whatever the fuck they like and in some way it all makes sense in the end, to me at least. They can go in any direction at any given time and that is what builds the tension in their albums, it's just completely different tension compared to other albums. But yeah, I get that people don't like that approach, so different strokes indeed!retinal orbita wrote:I know people worship this band but I never really got it - the ZZ Top esque stuff was all that ever did it for me, but its been a million jillion years since I went back to that one even. Different strokes I guess. There were a few tracks off each album I'd like but overall I found them inconsistent.christianatl wrote:At the risk of sounding contrarian, I can't stand The Pleaser. Awww hell yeah this. It's like the best melange of all the things that I like about them. Though, I bought a copy of a A Small Turn and it's really great when you consider it to be one 33 minute song instead of an album.christianatl wrote: Special Wishes is my jam. I love the early stuff too, but SW is so concise.

One of the greatest bands ever. Saw them a couple years back when Joe Preston was playing second guitar and they were phenomenal.
Am I right in thinking though that they're done now?
