Too late, his name is Carl.

Thanks guys!

Haha he looks like a Carl! My favourite janitor name would probably be Thurgood Jenkins though.... Remember when he gets off shift right at the start of the movie, walks outside the building, throws his arms in the air and yells FREE! I always thought that was so hilarious.

The Elements can do what the Cleanness can do but a few of the controls are optimized for the low gainness of the Cleanness. Like the gain control.. in the Elements, the Cleanness range of gain is a really small movement on the pot that goes through clean boost and into much higher gain. So on the Cleanness, the range of clean boost is evenly distributed over the whole range. Same for the volume and the treble, different pot roations/ranges for the low gainness.

The eq section is very slightly different in the Cleanness because it's intended for no gain/low gain, so the Elements being more intended for high gain required little tweaks to balance things.. little differences that just accentuate what the pedal is intended for or sound better doing that intended thing... eg the bass control in the Cleanness is a little lower and wider in range than the Elements, as the Elements needed it reigned in a bit to work best in all gain ranges. Small signal path change too, the Elements goes midrange, gain, gain, treble, bass while the Cleanness goes treble, midrange, bass, gain. Little things like that are different.

Mine arrived, super happy to have a Cleanness again, can't believe I ever sold my first one.

Anyway, this thing RULES. Of course you can use it for the obvious stuff like boosting pedals and/or amps, fine tuning EQ, or adding sparkle and punch to a clean tone but it's capable of sooooo much more. I've used on in the past to actually de-gain a high gain amp and give me a psuedo 2-channel setup which is a cool function and the new exp feature adds further options.

Something I fell in love with yesterday was running it post dirt/fuzz in some extreme filter settings, get those A Place To Bury Strangers toanz. I ran it head to head with my DBA Kill Kill Filter and the Cleanness crushed it. The KKF is cool but has a really small sweet spot in the filter sweeps. The Cleanness can cop any KKF tone esp when you push the gain up a bit plus so much more. The exp controlled mix lets you truly utilize the filtered settings, sweep it in and out however you please. Awesome pedal! Selling the KKF.

Hell yes he is. I used to do that voice (probably badly) all the time when I got drunk in college. The thing is, you can only really do that voice when you are yelling. The other people in bars probably hated me during my drunk Carl phases

Haha, never again. I learned that lesson the hard way. ;)

No problem. You'll love it.

I used to look at it as such a practical utility pedal, which it is in some ways, but it's capable of bringing the strange and unique sounds as well when you start pairing it up with other pedals. Much like the Elements, I feel like I could run dual Cleannesses on my board and still want more settings. Plus it makes your signal so much fatter. Think the Super Hard On but with powerful EQ and gain adjustment and TONS of output. Perfect really. :thumb:

I'm starting to think I need a Cleanness, more than my Elements...but I also think maybe I could get some really similar stuff and not need to change pedals. Recommend me a way to get close to Cleanness with muh Ele :poke:

Switch the Elements to low gain mode, set clipping toggle in the middle position, dial the gain back until breakup ceases, increase the volume to taste, set the EQ and EQ toggles to taste. That's pretty much an exact Cleanness setting but I find it a little difficult to get loud pure cleans from the Elements. It tends to wanna give a tiny bit of breakup if you run the gain even a touch too high.

Question: Is there any dirt present in the Cleanness? Or is it purely EQ/Boost. I'm wondering If I can can get the Cleanness and find a setting where it sits just on the edge of breakup, and then gives me a little bit of dirt when I really dig into chords and whatnot. I used to have an amp for this but it didn't take other pedals well at all. I have been searching for a pedal that gets this effect but nothing quite does it for me. I'm not looking to drive my amp into breakup, cause I use my amp totally clean.

Either way I plan on trying one when I get some money together, just trying to get a feel for how much breakup, if any you can get from the Cleanness.

It's just a clean boost/EQ, no dirt present. The Elements will get dirty even tho it uses the same Cleanness circuit but that's probably because there's sooooo much gain on tap and multiple clipping options, probably more pedal than you need if your just after the sound you described.

Something else to consider is the Fuck OD or Mini. Or the Arc Effects Klone v2. Both are very capable of that touch sensitive edge of breakup tone.
