Less clicky than the heavier gauge Tortex I compared 'em too. The Ultex just sounded smoother, not too bright, not too dark, perfect really.

Yeah I like the Ultex better than most other picks I've tried. They have a nice attack with a little bit of click, but not overly so.
Also, they seem stiffer than other materials of the same thickness. I like heavy picks but the 1.14 Ultex I have are good enough for me.

directly comparing my 0.9 sharp Ultex with my steel pick the ultex is much brighter and clickier, sharper attack... the steel one is rounder and sweeter sounding, more beefy... i'll definitely use it in the studio next time, it's great for solos

I did dig the Ultex pretty hard for a while, but I snapped every one I used in half. I was using like the .88? But, then I found out that the ILF picks are exactly what I like in a pick. I need more too, all mine have worn down to circles.

I tried aluminium pick, I tried the Ultex... not my things.
I prefer nylon... give me less clicking and a darker tone.

I've stopped using the ILF picks 'cause I'm afraid of losing them all.

I use bronze ones, they sound rad as fuck if your going for that Albini clang. Try looking on ebay for dunlop techpicks, there the best I've found.

Yeah I've honestly not used anything except ILF picks since I got an envelope full. They're perfect

I was about to post this exact same thing. A friend of mine gave me a 2mm Ultex pick with a pointy tip and I immediately fell in love. He said it's the closest thing to real tortoiseshell he's ever played, and he has a real (albeit illegal) tortoiseshell pick.

I used a metal thumbpick for a while, I prefer my tortex or whatever plastic ones now, the metal was a lil bright for DOOM.

It's a question of technique as well - I've played the purple turtle Dunlop 2.0s for 20-ish years now. I've never worn one out. They get lost long, long before (and I don't lose many).

Thing on any of the heavies (and I mean heavy as in 'does NOT bend') is that it takes a lighter touch in general to get what you're used to. You can get non-clicky, non-spiky easily with practice but the option is always there. All I lost with the megathick picks was the physical snap that I never liked anyway.

i hate pick chirp. i have been using these for around 10 years:

Herdim blue triangles. last forever, sound perfect, and sound the way they should (no extraneous string-to-pick noise).
i bought around 60 of them in 2004, or so, and still have most of them unused.

i got some V Picks for free when they first came out, and they were the chirpiest damn picks i have ever tried.

I use all kinds of materials.

A good compressor helps tame the attack on the particularly peaky ones

ok, as well as the ultex 2mm i've ordered the fattest possible big stubby, delrin, gator and primetone to try.
the herdim doesnt seem to have a uk dealer, i'll see how it goes with the other ones
