When I was in the market for a five string oh about 13 years ago; I was demoing every mid priced ($1500-ish) bass that I could find. MM SR-5 with the single H.Bucker I noted had a really amazing piano like sound. The B strings was really clear and powerful sounding.
I was wavering back and forth between the SR-5 a Modulus Genesis 5 (the ones with graphite sandwiched between a wooden neck and fingerboard) and a Warwick Thumb Bolt-On 5.
As you can imagine I wound up going with the Warwick. I was in heart with the midrange growl, aggressiveness, aesthetics and engineering.
I thought hard on the Modulus and to this day still have serious gas pains for one,...but as far as I know they are discontinued and rarely see the light of day on the 2nd hand market.
SR5's; while I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth,...don't really float my boat at this point in time.
