So ignorant with this shit. Trying to understand here."??? I think MIDI triggering from a Guitar or Bass has it's place and there are Pros out there using it to it's fullest but it aint for me... I say get a Synth or a ROMPLER and play that shit and keep the actual Bass and Guitar playing to the Bass and Guitar playing roles...

Well first off are you using a Passive or Active Bass, also are you using the best Fuzz for Walrus Fucking cause that's imperative... I would suggest that you get a MIDI Bass and Hook it up to a Roland JV 1080 and use Patch #666 tuned to Dropped Q and then send it through some kind of Eventide Harmonizer set to the Animal Fucks Preset then any kind of Boss Chorus mixed with a tad of Flange plus some True Bypass Analog PT2399 Delay and you should get close...

I had a midi guitar synth for awhile but I sold it because I would just rather have pedals. or maybe a synth. I would rather just have the actual thing than control it with a guitar. it just didn't feel right to me

Like I have said before in the past, the Game Changer is a great bass for someone who is a clinic player that does primarily studio only playing. But you have a rosco which AFAIK could probably match as many sounds as the Game Changer.

So maybe your missing just having a music man.

I just got a Yamaha G-50 MIDI convertor (for cheap). I still have to get a MIDI pickup (well really a hex pickup). I am going to get a rack synth. The key is to play higher on the neck and make patches that are pitched down an octave.

From what I can see it basically means you can use your guitar to play midi compatible synths. How much you can do depends on the synth really and how well the guitar tracks. Stuff that's out at the moment doesn't seem too great or very flexible. I'd fucking love a good midi guitar to plug into reaktor to make weird noise or jittery idm shit.

So, a bass guitar that ran a synth would be really cool for me.

Waiting for the Squier Bass VIs to appear, then slapping a GK-2/3 on it and going to synthtown on my GR-55.

Should be loads of fun, I love it with my Jag/GK3 combo but I desperately want a synth VI.

Synth guitar (or bass) is a thing where you get what you pay for in huge, huge degrees - and you have to not be afraid of programming and multifx to make it work.

But I love having actual 'holy shit this thing tracks what I'm doing' versus pure noisemaking splat sometimes, and that's the only way to do it.

Do you think a GK3 would work well with a laptop running reaktor? I've been rolling about the idea of getting one for ages, but I'll pass if it's gonna be a pain in the ass to get working well.

You can't just plug the GK3 into a Midi in on an audio interface, it doesn't produce midi data, it still has go to some sort of guitar-to-midi box.

Yea, you'll need something that reads the pickup. That gets pricey for anything good, and know how to set up the PU (and spend time doing it). Once it's on and configured you're good to go with it, but it's like finding a tech 20 years ago to adjust a Jaguar trem. You're pretty much going to be on your own for the little stuff, then learn how to play for the PU/your tracking device. Newer stuff is a LOT more forgiving than older tech; my GR-55 is stupid good and takes work to actually mistrack (which is funny, because I loved random notes and wacky sometimes, just not all the time)

And any MIDI stuff has the potential to be a serious pain in the ass, especially for a first-time user/setup.

Even something as easy as a hardware MIDI out into your DAW may take some tweaking to get rolling properly - MIDI has been expanded in many ways from its original uses and is from a time in which plug and play type devices weren't even a thought with hope of implementation.
