Used G&L's L1000 or L2000's. You can get some really kickass ones for 700 or 800 bucks. Even some from the early 80's.

I play a squier bronco bass. I love it. $50.

I would totally go that route but they seldom pop up over here and when they do it's normally much more than $800 unfortunately. I'll keep an eye out though!

lol that's good to know, out of curiousity how much did you have to pay for shipping? I check the ishi site all the time they have some kickass stuff on there from time to time.
I could get a gibbo SG bass or one of those new EB's for pretty cheap, or maybe an old greco or something

yeah.. but some stuff is so much cheaper and/or unobtainable that it makes sense still, especially used guitars and japanese domestic models that they don't normally export.
they used to have shipping prices listed and it was i think 16000 yen (about $180), but i can't seem to find the page anymore, hoping it hasn't gone up.
they're very reputable so I'm not too worried about ordering from them if i can find the right deal

Yeah it sounds like you've braced yourself for Japan shipping. The guitars are certainly awesome. Although I would think, you know there is a discount Japanese airline now. And if you went to the University district you could actually play all these guitars yourself and decide, and just have to pay th airline upcharge for your luggage. Probably slightly more expensive but would be fun!

Yeah that's def an option but they seem to be going up in price a lot recently, last one I saw went for like $650. Probably still better than most stuff in that price range anyway though

That's true, even in the US they're getting pretty expensive. I'll keep an eye out locally.
I can't find any on the Tym site, they might have already sold it. They have some cool stuff there, a lot more guitars than basses though.

I've been thinking about getting a new bass also though I wouldn't say I have a price limit. of course the cheaper it is the sooner I can buy it haha.
Right now I want something that has a thicker tone. Some balls and body to the sound.
So far I like the Reverend Mercalli, Laklands, and Gibsons. On the higher end I like Roscoe, MTD, and Pedulla but those are gonna be around 1800 to 2500 used. and I feel like I might be too young to own something that nice? haha

1. Don't think that your never too young to own anything. That type of thinking is for gear snobs. If it keeps you involved in music then all for the better.
2. out of all of those I can say if your going to high end go for broke and get a fugging MTD. Them sons of bitches can do just about anything.
3. As far as the OP. I recommend getting a USED G&L. The prices are very low compared to what others go for on the BST market and the build quality is outstanding.
