at one time the Jimi Hendrix Experience were using walls of Sunn Coliseum stacks...a photo was posted somewhere on here very recently. that was high-end stuff in its day, and notoriously loud.

Considering you found what I would consider a steal in HAWAII, home of EVERYTHING BEING HELLA EXPENSIVE, I feel you're making the right move here.

But YES, it will sound good at low volume and YES, you should buy it immediately.
I was playing my Beta Lead at home last night; so many options allow you to really dial it in btw the 2 channels and extensive tone shaping controls...it is VERY clean sounding but does take pedals quite well. I get stuck using my ampegs all the time, forgot how good that amp sounds....

NO MUSICAL BOUNDARIES

Started to type a cheeky comment about the Soldano SLO 100, but backspaced after your post got me thinking in another direction....and I waste no opportunity to further derail discussions with my own train of thought:

New gear development has historically lead to the innovation of new styles of music, from the evolution of the piano to the introduction of tunable drums and electrically amplified instruments. Think about music before and after the electric guitar, polyphonic synthesizer, drum machine, sampler all became ubiquitous.

No issue with any of that, personally.

My problem is when people mandate gear to serve a reliance on formula.
"You can't be a <blank> unless you have a <blank>"
That mentality is one of triteness.

Superior user with mediocre gear > mediocre user with superior gear.
Superior user with superior gear = :zen:

How else can you stretch $200 so far, in the current market of secondhand "older is better" gear? Just be careful that the deal isn't too good to be true...

Haha, getting "stuck" with that wall of Ampegs is def not a bad thing. ;)

I'd love to find a Beta Lead tho. For $200! Wow.

Since it's at a shop, make sure the tech has ok'd it and they're not selling it as-is.

Ok heres the dealio

It was brought in for repair and never picked up so they put it up for sale. Its got a crackly pot or two but I can fix that me thinks. Hawaii has so much dust its hard to keep electronics clean with out a cover.

The reverb is gone...like it doesnt work at all...gonna open it up sometime this week and take a look...it might just need a good cleaning. But because the verb was out I got it for even less. $160. And for the 20 minutes I got to play it before work...it kills. The distortion on it is awesome. Its SO LOUD. I turned the bass to 10 and my figures fell off my desk. Abd I think someone changed out the speakers cuz theyre celestions. I dunno...im at work right now. Ill play with it more in a few hours.

Congrats on scoring a 100W Beta Lead for the price of your average fuzz pedal. Amazing score!
