I don't think that will meet his "at a good price" qualifier

You could find a decent bass on Craigslist and pull the frets out, it's pretty easy.

Man, Rics have always been on my wishlist. I've never played their basses, but their guitars are amazing and I just assume that their basses are just as good. Definitely doesn't meet the good price qualifier though.

I've considered that as well. Might still go for it if I find something at a good price or maybe a decent project bass.

I definitely hear ya there. I've been playing bass for about 17 years, and I wanted a Ric for all 17 of those years. It took until last year before I was able to afford one. And even that only happened because I changed jobs and got 4 weeks of saved up vacation days paid out to me. But as basses go, Rics are one of the few expensive-ish basses that I would say are "worth it". The most distinctive tone in the entire bass world. You can tell a Ric on any recording, anytime.

Re: Fretless bass suggestions/opinions
So I put an ad up looking for a cheap fretless bass and this was offered to me.
Short description from the owner:
"Built this bass from various spare parts as follows:
Neck is lined fretless rosewood from a Fender Mexican J, decals were removed and replaced with "Jesus" decals, but are easily removed if you like
Stock Fender "standard" tuners, bone nut, threaded inserts and steel machine screws at joint
Waxed Swamp Ash body of unknown origin, very light, shielded body cavities, Bartolini pups, generic high mass bridge
Solid Walnut faceplate and control plate (intriguing!), had 3 wood knobs but I lost one of them.
That stripe you see from the bridge to pup rout is aluminum tape, the body has no rout or hole for ground wire to bridge.
Road Runner gig bag"
He's asking $400 for it.
It's honestly probably worth it for the headstock decals alone but what do you guys think?

You found it, the perfect fretless bass for P&W

I'd have to play and inspect anything home-built before buying but i bet it's worth checking out for the price, I've seen some shockingly done home-builds with higher asking prices.

400 seems a little high, I'd see if I could talk him down a little bit, but it's a fun looking bass.

Lightwave Sabre VL. Do it so I can have someone to envy.
The Tony Franklin signature from Fender and the Bass Mods K4VV sound incredible as well.
