i have such a love / hate relationship with that genre. i love a lot of the bands, but the "emo" means different things to people, so i end up making random descriptions for what bands sound like.

"noodly kinsella inspired stuff"
"lots of builds and explosions"
"loud guitars with a dude shouting poetry at you"

and "skramz" is just plain silly

i feel the new kinsella inspired stuff is considered math-rock to people...but it definitely is emo. Algernon...

I love most of this "revival" shit. I dunno, it's super high energy jamz that make me wanna grab life by the balls and jump around like a moron and not give 2 fucks. There also seems to be a preponderance for pumping compression on a lot of this stuff. Don't know what that's about.

prepare you anus for imminent impact

Wasn't the emo revival like 20 years ago with like, The Get Up Kids?

Cuz get up kids rule.
But yeah, that "screamin"= "scene"
I mean, I liked taking back sunday too,
but still, not quite the same genre.

I think bands in this vein get kinda cheesy and uncomfortably juvenile pretty quick. lame unfunny song titles, uncreative cookie cutter tapping riffs. but honestly it's probably because they're so close to being something I'd really like that I get irked. I could probably say the same thing in any genre.
Anyways some of my favorite bands I think fit in this "emo" resurgence and I love that :thumb:

none of these bands are emo. these are all third generation emo at best, and post hardcore/shit at worst.

Speaking of Braid, I'm still not 100% sold on their new songs.

also, Owls are back together and working on new music.

At least we have Frame and Canvas. Also, everything that dude has done very recently has been BOOOOOOOOOOOORING.

Fine. Rites of Spring sucks too, and no one would like them if it weren't for the Fugazi/Dischord connection.

quick thought:
98% of the bands in this thread sound (to my ears, obvs) like the throwaway Victory bands that weren't super-bro hardcore.
Aping other musos but using the clean channel instead hardly constitutes a revival.

Agreed.
Seems to be a pretty fine line between emo and post-hardcore and math rock sometimes. I really love Owls, American Football and Cap'n Jazz though.
