Always bothered me.

I don't know - I say Kyle-essa, but that 's just my guess(a).
Also, if you can, catch them on this tour and watch all of the opening acts. Damn, what a great show that was. And SO MANY PEDALS! Will try to get crappy cell phone pics up later this week.

Thanks for the tip on a pretty decent band! One thing that bothers me as I get better at production (and fuck if Younger Me isn't stabbing me viciously as I say this) is that Mr. Cope needs to hand the production duties off to someone else. Well, OK, so I can understand wanting to do it all yourself, you learn things and maybe it gives the band a freer hand to experiment. But I think, especially with regards to usage of the stereo field, this album could be a lot more engaging.
Sorry to get all gearslutty. Rock is rock and this kicks ass. I enjoy a lot of badly recorded music. This one just struck me since they are really a very polished unit seemingly going for a very polished sound, but the treatment of the rhythm section in particular disappoints.
Thanks again for the tip!

I've always heard the band members pronounce it Ky-less-a.

So I checked this album out this weekend. Really good stuff. Kind of gives me a Fear Before vibe, I think. Which is a good thing.

Ky-LESS-a. They lost me with the last one, like I actually turned it off around that 'don't look back' song. Am I going to hate this?
Also if you haven't heard them, dudes previous band Damad rules. Crusty, noisy sludge stuff.

Everyone I know who hated the last one REALLY hates this new one. I don't get it tho cuz this new one harkens back to Static Tensions, just thick catchy heaviness.

I mean, it's been a while since I've listened to them, but Fear Before's self titled in 2008 shares some similarities for sure.

Oh, ok, that makes sense. I was thinking of their more spastic stuff for some reason hahah. Checking out a track now, I can see where you're coming from.

Yeah, it's not all of the tracks on the album, but especially Long Gone gives me that same feeling.

Couple of crappy cell phone pix:
TOWER OF NOISE!!!!!!!!
Blood Ceremony
White Hills
Lazer/Wulf - crazy thrash prog played at light speed. It would have been obnoxious if they weren't so damned great, and so damned enthusiastic. These guys were seriously just totally stoked to be playing together onstage, and it was utterly infectious.

LIL' MOAR:
Lazer/Wulf's bass player made the best bass face, and his head was swinging like it was on a swivel the whole set.
VYGR, the local opener. Total metalcore/sludge/psych/drone steamroller. Huge props for not phoning in even though there were maybe twenty of us there for their whole set. They played like their lives were on the line, and were totally tight as hell.

I meant to talk to him about that but I was talking to one of the drummer's, Erik, whom I know from booking some Capsule shows a ways back. Then I started talking to the guitarist about the Grand Rapids scene and pinball machines, which this GR venue is known for. An excellent show.
Sadly the shirt I bought is the wrong size. Should've double checked when I was there.
Anybody going to the Kylesa show and wear a size small? We can swap.
