well a bow is just a oversized pick anyway
ehhh I'm not too much into the sound a bow makes, sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me
I'll probably play with my fingers because I'm more into the blues/jazz/rocknroll sound
I just like the way electric basses sound with a pick

Man, I went to a fancy restaurant the other day for work and there was an upright bass and piano duo tearing it up while I ate. Makes me want to learn to play a double bass. Hard to justify the cost and space, though.

Does it? It shouldn't.
What're they going for these days?

Damn, that's too expensive. We should start making cheaper Baby Basses. Then launch out marketing campaign "A Baby Bass in every home."

the upright I have sounds thin when played from the left side. it's about 100years old and has that uneven fretboard that drops off along the e string. It sounded so much better when I tried playing it right handed. Other basses I've played don't have such a tone difference between handedness. but now it's totally fucked and the neck cracked at the joint so it's just a huge worthless thing. not to mention I got it by trading a 75 lefty fretless jazz bass. I was 19 and stupid.

Yep. Besides, with NS Design and their NXT series sitting at $1,000, they're a better option.

Oh, you're definitely right. I just think Baby Basses look & sound better and I have a sentimental attachment to them.

Maybe? The couple of Baby Basses I've played have not really impressed me at all. Maybe they were just not well cared for over the years, but just played okay and the sound was THAT sound, and nothing else.

Orchestra stringed instruments are a finicky and expensive mess. personally I wouldn't bother with them unless you are really willing to commit to playing it. or you have a lot of money. I used to play Cello in high school but I dropped it to focus on bass. No regrets!
