i've had a mothership too and have never mixed it. cheapo behringer bass synth is better IMO.

The best one for me is the Electro Harmonix Micro Synth, otherwise I'd go digital and get something from Source Audio maybe.
I didn't like the tracking on the Mothership because it was lagging, you can't play fast notes on it and no legato at all.
The Subdecay Octasynth is quite cool, though it doesn't have that many features, both Subdecay and WMD have released prototypes of new synth type pedals but it's not clear yet when the official versions will be released.
Other than that there's also the Music From Outer Space Sub Commander which is supposed to be quite cool, it's a DIY thing though.
Or one of these rising PLL clones maybe?

the manual for this thing is insane. i just plugged it in and went thru all the presets.

i think i like my shoe pedals stuff more TBH

i have and love a microsynth too but the behringer is still more diverse in capabilities.

I really don't think there is a best one. They all are flawed majorly in one way or another. It is a matter of what you can work around.
Essentially a modular synth on your pedalboard is the best way to go I think.
I am using an INFANEM Second Voice DLX as my "base" sound or my OC-2 into my Megalith. Then I filter it (I can control the cutoff and resonance with CV) then I modulate, PitchFactor for more movement (Harpegiator) then reverb and delay (If needed).

modular has been my plan all along. i just dont have my "base" pedal yet, as you put it.

comp ---> ????? (base sound) ----> moog freqbox -----> something bitcrusher-ish (for optional use, not all the time) ------> modulation (right now, a 70s small clone, and a trem) -------> this crazy ring modulator thing i got from a random guy on ebay ------> delay

and i think thats about it. i dunno i just woke up. could have missed something. toss in an octaver/pitch shifter somewhere. not sure where really. after the comp i suppose. also i forgot..swell pedal.
im sure i could make do just running a comp and or boost into the freqbox. but ive tried that for a while, and it's not synthy enough for me

Well, I meant the video from that Subdecay prototype you quoted somewhere around here:

WMD also had a prototype at NAMM:

Sorry, didn't want to make you happy for nothing, old news I guess. :(
