Chain links work awesome but may not be for those who change their signal chain daily. It your setup is semi-permanent tho it's totally the way to go.
There are two common sizes of chain, so some links may not work with all your pedals depending on the size of machine screws from your enclosure.
If you use an actual bike chain tool to push the pins out, it makes it super easy and you don't end up with bent plates. Because I like rubber feetz on my pedulz, I also use the leftover circular spacers as washers between the links and the board...

velcro. i considered cat shit since with three cats here we've got an absolute glut on the market, but it won't stick to the PedalTrain.

I'm not sure as my step-father at the time got the foam for me, but I can tell you it was expensive ass foam. Like $40 for this big ol' rectangle. It's quite a bit more stiff than any matress foam I've seen, though. Some sort of grey foam.

This is interesting. I just abandoned the bicycle chain method this past weekend because I had trouble getting them to fit on all my pedals. In particular, the links that I used were a hair too short for my Way Huge pedal, so I had to screw the screws into the pedalboard at an angle.

My second problem was that on my Blackout Effectors STD, one of the enclosure screws was recessed (I don't know what the technical term is for this, but it was deeper than the other screws) so I was unable to mount a screw directly on the pedal in that corner. This made the pedal feel a little wobbly went I went to step on it.

My last problem with the bike link method was that, after mounting links to pedals, simply marking the spots to be drilled on the board with a pencil didn't work. Now, this may have just been my personal quirk because I'm absolutely shit at Home Depot nonsense. But I'd mark the spots to be drilled, remove the pedal, and drill the holes, but when trying to affix the pedal after drilling I found that some of the holes didn't match up and I'd have to re-drill. My remedy to this was pretty stupid, I admit in retrospect. What I did was just hold the pedals to the board while power drilling. That led to some damage to my enclosures:



lol. Anyway, so I'm back to velcro now. I'm sure there are people out there having a fine old time with the bicycle link method. I just wanted to put this out there so that people can learn from my mistakes.

i've used velcro and zip ties. zip ties rule if you know nothing's getting switched around.
otherwise, like most of us junkies, roll w/ the cro.


seriously once upon a time w/ my band OF that time did 5 weeks touring and i used pegboard and zip ties so nothing would go anywhere and so it was easy to hang the thing on the side of our van (inside, tee hee).

The only other option from the ones mentioned I can think of is the blackbird tape but in my epxerience it works best on very smooth board surfaces and the clean off is not as easy as they adviertize on their website

Use industrial velcro on both the board and the pedal.

Shouldn't come off unless you're living underwater, in a pressure cooker, etc.

I went full tgp and put dual lock on everything. Mostly because its adhesive is theoretically so much better than Velcro (as vidret mentioned). It is expensive as shit but it is also way better than Velcro. We'll see how the glue holds up over the summer.

i sometimes change pedals, but I never change the pedal order so being an inflexible solution doesn't bother me.

I've used all of these methods. Velcro is my favorite.

Bike chain links is really cool, and makes stealing peds impossible, which is nice when you play at less-than-reputable venues. But it's kind of a pain in the ass to break all the links, and a huge pain to rearrange anything, or unplug a wonky cable (which is why I love topside jacks).

Foam doesn't work as well as I though it would. Stuff still moves around, especially if you're not that gentle with it when loading in/out.

Zip ties were cool for a bit, but, again, modularity is one of the most fun bits of pedaldom. The more I commit and say "OK, that's the board, gonna stick to it," the more I wind up tinkering with shit. And it is probably the ugliest option...also, it can wear the finish of off your goodies, if you care about that sort of thing.

Right now, mine are just strewn around on the floor, because it's the best way for me to work when I'm dicking around, or recording/reordering everything. When everything comes in the mail, I'll just spray paint a thick piece of plywood black, put some tall legs on the back, mount a thin PSU underneath (ADAM), and velcro the shit out of everything.
