I find Converge to be pretty cool as well, quite apart from other Hardcore / Post Hardcore bands soundwise I think, and they Rock live, as does / did Isis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9wZDd_GgPs
I would not call either Mastodon or Isis post-hardcore, especially not Isis, there is really no punk to them whatsoever. They are definitely post-metal, and I probably wouldn't argue with someone calling them either post-rock or progressive metal.

Thanks for the heads up. So it's about the Punk thing, right, I didn't know, I also thought it wasn't Post Hardcore but it said so on Allmusic so I thought I'd still drop it here, whatever it is, it's amazing music (especially Isis). Anyway, I don't want to clod this topic, carry on.
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee
I've already bought a bunch of stuff and I'm waiting on a combined shipping quote for like 15 other things. I love shopping ~ SQUEEEEE!
I will have a group shot when it all arrives in a fricking month (stupid Australia). Only stuff I had trouble finding was things on Backwards Voyagers list (I will admit I pretty much only checked out the ones in bold). Even Discogs failed me on a lot of them and the ones someone did have up on there were pretty expensive. Might have to play the waiting game on those.

The bold ones are the best ones! A lot of the others are on bandcamp but pretty much nowhere else, I find a lot of music through blogs so a lot of it is basically unknown outside small local scenes haha.
It's a fine line between hardcore and what people call noise rock. And I will cross it back and forth plenty in this post. Never really made that distinction.
Oxes (not sure about the number of x-es in the band name, might be more than one) Noxagt Whores Machine that flashes Orchid Don Caballero JR Ewing
Well known but maybe you never actually checked them out.
Melvins Helmet Unsane Wire
Less hardcore, more early days of post rock:
June of 44 Slint
Local stuff:
Pendikel - Fu ruft Uta Von Spar - Die uneingeschränkte Freiheit der privaten Initiative Blackmail - Science Fiction
(All these bands have really different (Von Spar) or simply bad albums, if you want to check them out make sure to get these.)
So, I probably have not only crossed borders between genres but also the equator of the planet heavy music more than once. Anyway these are bands that come to mind with some of what has been mentioned. And they all share a similar place in my moods.
I always put on Drive Like Jehu and/or Hot Snakes when I want to listen to post hardcore.
Even though you don't like Jawbox, I would check out J Robbins other projects (especially Burning Airlines). I know the definition of post-hardcore has definitely shifted over time but I would put Quicksand, and as mentioned earlied, Helmet in there. Maybe Renee Heartfelt and Cave In.
