meaning, i have certain pedals on my board that i see more as tone shaping and others are there to really mangle my sound.
so i found a basis for my sound with overdrive, fuzz, phaser, wah, octave, and then things like the rainbow machine, dl4 and deluxe pitch pirate to get wacky. although lately i've been dialing in more subtle settings for both. and it helps even for said effects to be interchangeable, so something like my sibling phaser or BAT fnord can do either.
but the point i'm trying to make is that looking at it from this perspective has made me stay put for awhile and not flip one pedal after another because i get to a point where i don't even know what i want to hear anymore.
sorry for the rant and hopefully this makes sense and i don't sound like a pompous douche.
I totally get you. I have been running my current set up for almost a year now, with small changes here and there, but I have realized lately I just have too many drives/fuzz. I spend5-10minutes just trying to get the driven sound I am looking for, and that's just plain lame because I should be playing not being lame.
