That is one tough question to answer! I can only narrow it down to two completely opposite guitars, my 68RI LP Custom and my newly acquired Custom Shop '58 Jazzmaster with maple fretboard. That's the best I can do, can't decide between those two no matter how hard I try.

That said, I think anywhere from 2-4 guitars and a single bass is the most I'll ever own simultaneously. Any more than that and I can't focus on any single instrument for long plus maintenance becomes a real pain in my ass.

I couldn't have only one guitar.
No way.

I have 5 guitars right now (+misc instruments and a bass) and my "goal" is to have at least 30 of them!!!!
There is too much beauties out there I can't decide wich one could be the only one...and I feel comfortable on every guitar I play so...
So, I got a problem cause I have the exact map of my five next guitars

I couldn't have only one guitar.
Nooooooo way!!!!!!
I feel sad just thinking about it...

I'd have to go with a Tele Deluxe. It has been all I play the last few months because it covers so much ground sonically. But there would always be part of me that wanted something with a Bigsby.

First off, that's a fiiiine geetar.
Second, where'd you get the fancy custom switch plate thingy? Same dudes who made the pickguard?

Also, my answer is the SGV-300. So good. The trem is annoying to fine tune but I love the rest of it to PIECES, SON.

I'm down from 4 guitars to 1. As a bass player I couldn't justify having 4 guitars as I only use them for songwriting and the occasional rhythm guitar fill-in. I got into a "clean house" mentality with my gear and got rid of most everything that wasn't getting used regularly (still have a few pedals to go). The acoustic was an easy decision because I'm not into acoustic music anymore. The Gretsch LP Junior style Electromatic that I used as a beater was also a no-brainer. The one that was tough was my 89 American Standard Telecaster that I bought new. It was the one that I grew most as a guitar player with. I'm not really sentimental when it comes to gear, but the Tele actually meant something. But in the end, it just didn't feel as right as my Guild Bluesbird w/P-90's. The look, feel and most importantly, the sound of that guitar is just amazing. It is "my guitar" and no other guitar compares.

Now if I could only pare down my 3 basses....

Can I keep a baritone and regular one? Cause in that case, Gibson LP bari and non-reverse Firebird.

Basses is easy, my Epi t-bird, though I want to steal Mudfuzz' 5 string V.

I just built a baritone, myself, and it's basically the one instrument I've needed to cover all the tones I want. But my G&L is my fucking katana, y'know?! Just sayin'

my alvarez acoustic on which I learned how to play 20 years ago.
and my 67 watermelon burst kustom I've had since '02.
because electric and acoustic are different instruments.

Definitely my Ricky. But it would really suck trying to figure out how to do all the covers songs where I need my 5-string.
