It could definitely be how it pairs with the Bassman. Are you using a 2x12 cab?
I have a '68 Bassman into a 2x12 and there just aren't really too many mids to be had, it just wasn't intended to have strong/present mids. I also have a '68 Super and the elements with dimed mid eq into the Super (4x10 with mid control) makes my cheeks queef.
Do you jump your Bassman's channels? If you don't or are unsure of what I mean, try using a patch cable from input 2 on the bass channel to input 1 on the normal chan, and then plug into normal input 2. Ot creates a boost (predominantly in the mids). Then use the bass channel for your bass EQ (will be much more bass control/deeper EQ options) and the Normal channel for your treble EQ.
