Well, the first review I had heard of the Talons was JustNick's guitar demo:

There's a fair amount of talkin', but I think he does a nice job of covering why it's great, at least from a guitfiddle perspective...

I love how even with the gain maxed it doesn't sound squashed or compressed or whatever word I'm trying to find that's suitable for how awesome that sounds.
Keep it maxed and let your volume knob adjust the gain is what's up
And just nick is of the few people I can listen to on pedal demos and feel like I'm actually learning something

In about half of his demos I actually prefer the talking bits, I like how he talks about pedals while avoiding the common buzzwords as much as possible.
The Talons sounds totally awesome! Damn.

Now... how does it handle actives compared to passives? Just how much low-end carnage is available with the bass knob dimed?

These are both great questions that I am not entirely qualified to answer. Might need to borrow one of BigChief's basses to figure those out! That said, I would guess that a ton of low-end carnage is available. I think it'll be really dependent on the bass used...
