We used a Soda Meiser live for a long time, and it worked really well. Has a great grindy sound on bass. However, it does have a slight gate on it, so your note won't sustain forever, if that's what you need.
If you want a really simple pedal that's friggin' GREAT on bass, try a Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian.
If you want a slightly more complex pedal that's friggin' GREAT on bass, try a Bass Algal Bloom.

Nowadays they're pretty close, but I think the VFM is the more gated one.

They're both pretty gated, but I agree the VFM is a little more gated and compressed. The vfm also goes into scrambled octavia quicker.
