As a heavily surf-influenced/obsessed guitarist, I'll swear by an outboard tank any day if you have the cash. Fender RI units aren't particularly "deep," but I love how bright, splashy, and obnoxious they are. Some other alternatives are Texotica and Guyatone reverb tanks. Surf Guitar 101 (http://surfguitar101.com/forums/) has dozens of threads on the various tanks, pedals, etc.

As far as pedals go, I've never had any big issue with the Fender '63 Reverb emulation pedal thinger if you need the DRIPDRIPDRIP. If it's about budget/space/etc why the hell not. I'm intrigued by that Surf Rider pedal though. It doesn't sound too drippy, but it seems to add a nice color to your tone.

Cause I will be running the reverb after a crap-ton of fuzz most likely.

Electronics too, probably no guitar actually...

Yep, I run it after a shit load of fuzz and distortion and what I like about it is that it doesn't compress your signal, you can control how prominent the reverb is, as well as the tails. It keeps low end in tact and doesn't make anything muddy, which I look for using so much dirt

I have one of these and while they sound incredible, they don't enter the insane surf style spring sounds achieved by the Fender tanks. Most likely due to the small size of the Vanamps, thus shorter springs. I'm thinking you can special order it with a long set of springs tho and that would def get you where you wanna be.

Fender spring reverb unit. Pricey, but you can get them used for 150 and they sound rad. Other than that I am in the dark as far as digital spring reverb pedals go.

Just get a v4. The spring verb on that thing is super lush.

d00d dont do it, it's not worth it. trust me ;)

Eh, considering you can have two presets in one box I'd still take it over other reverbs. I don't really get the hate on them, they do sound great and has a massive range. In hindsight, El Capistans should be taking the overhyped bandwagoning.

I have the old version and it's great. Only issue is the layout makes it awkward to fit on your board if you're trying to claim every square inch like me. I got a Ghost Echo to save space. Not quite as nice sounding, but sounds really good still, and fits very nicely.

its like the same size/layout as my MLJr or mxr flanger. But yeah, the ge is a great one too. You can get them on ebay for <$100. Thats crazy! More often the older bigger version though. But i would go that route any day cause it seems like itd be hella easier spinnin dem knobs with your feet

I meant having a more expensive product with cheaper and better alternatives.

if you're playing with a bunch of fuzz, i can't recommend anything more than the ghost echo. sounds so good with dirt. and without. such a killer pedal. there's a lot of great reverb out there, but i think this is the one that has really nailed it with dirt>reverb.
