I used to own this and absolutely HATED the fact you had to hold the switch throughout the recording process. I was coming off a DL4 tho, probably the sweetest looper in terms of functionality imo until it was unseated by the Timeline so holding the switch on the EHX felt really unnatural.
Also, it doesn't have any form of memory or sample triggering capability, not sure how important that is to the OP but something to consider...
Yeah I have the SMMH and would not recommend it for looping, you have to hold the switch down the whole time and it makes it difficult to time things properly. I also find there's a bit of a volume drop when looping too, it's a shame because the filter, reverse and speed stuff you can do with the knobs is neat. It really needs an extra switch for looping and a preset stomp like the Ring Thing instead of having to twiddle with the hazarai knob. I'm gonna try the Flashback X4 next, but the Pigtronix Infinity looks great, shame the price is so stupidly high.
I need a small looper too and I'm considering the JamMan Solo, is it worth paying extra for the XT version? I don't intend to use the pedal in conjunction with other JamMan Solo units, so that feature is irrelevant.
I used my flashback last night as a looper - to record a low note into and loop repeatedly to break in a new speaker :P Although I guess if you're using the loop as an atmospheric thing, then the Flashback works for this (with some minimal blip in sound when the loop ends and begins again)
But for say, recording some chords over your drummer and then looping it while you solo, I can't imagine using the flashback for this, unless the drummer wants to sync up with what your loop is doing (and however long it takes to begin again at the end of the loop)

Searching for that new sound.
If you can read this, then I'm back?
the looping is just for ambient between track stuff. gonna trust my gut feeling, and just ordered a flashback from prymaxe (coupon code NEW15 doesn't hurt either)
maybe later this year I'll make room on my 2nd board for a jamman stereo once I cut my fcb1010 down in size, and either way I don't really have a need for playing back samples atm in my band. the drummer can use his sp404 if we're in a bind, i'm busy enough as it is anyways. i'm never gonna want to use it for syncd anything.

XT lets you choose if you want the default "record>play>overdub" method" or "record>overdub>play" might be the deal changer for you
Some guy made a lil rubber button that slips over the knobs of a Jamman and lets you overdub or something... I saw it the other day and thought I'd put it here...
I can't deal with those blips at the end of loops. No way. I've dealt with it a couple times, once with a defective JamMan and once with a Timeline that needed a software update. Always a dealbreaker if it can't be resolved.
like any kind of edit to a recording in progress, you have to pick your edit points for the loop so you don't cut off in the middle of a note or have an abrupt dynamic transition. if i'm looping drones i use the volume pedal to fade in, and let the drone run at least two iterations of the loop length before fading out. this gets really tricky for me sometimes because i like to use serrated settings like tremolo chop and step filtering, and thus have to get the edits pretty precise. i DJed for awhile, though, so i can do that kind of editing OK.

Yea, modern loopers are a ton easier than the one-shot sample and hold delay units I learned to play on - when I got a real Echoplex and later a Roland Chorus Echo with loop/OD capacity it was a revelation.
The stuff out now is flat out amazing, once you learn the quirks of a particular device (and I insist on having large, happy footswitches for the controls as a mangled-foot cripple).

That could be useful but I don't think I'd want to pay an additional £60 for that feature. How good is the software? Does it work in conjunction with a memory card alone, or do you need to have the pedal connected via USB?
I'm trying to decide between the Solo and the RC-3 now. The main advantage of the latter seems to be that it's easier to power.
I saw this today which i suppose is the loop function of the FlashBack delay. would be exactly what I need, yet i've already ordered the flashback... it'll probably only be out in june anyways.
