sounds like a decent mic EQed to sound like a cheap mic with a big cut in the low mids. i used to refer to the sound of recordings with low-mids cut and over-boosted highs as "the telephone effect." there's something going on with the reverb, too, some kind of tone decay that cuts the highs on the reflections.

I ordered an Old telephone mic capsule (7$) and will try several Things: cheap mic to get the Sound direct, miced amp and normal mic with eq/Filter and maybe dirt.
Will See what Works.
