it's a mk 1. something for sure burned up. i just cannot understand why that would happen with the battery.

Malekko handled their shit! Well done guys! For the collective edification of the internet, mk II 616s have had issues of this sort engineered out.

yep, going for a new one. they gave me two options, send it in for a repair, free of charge or pay the bench fee for a new pedal, mark II which will take one spots or at least reject spikes in voltage. i elected for the latter. also, the lofi reissue/reworking is defiantly on the horizon.
just looking at the el cap again and seeing all the hidden features. pretty neat. i understand it's quite popular....

So wait, you fry a pedal by not giving it enough current? I thought it just wouldn't power up but still being in working order

Josh seemed to be aware of exactly what the problem was when i described the situation, citing one particular transistor (forget which) as what had smoked. i got the distinct impression that this problem is specific to the mk I 616s.
