The Noise feature is really great with the Sample and Hold on the Monotribe... LFOing works real well too...

The guy downstairs has a Monotribe and it is pretty fun.
Related, he told me that he wants to build up a similar setup to this now:

Hmmmm, lots of good food for thought. I guess I want something that I can use for relatively simple backing tracks (drums and bass) then play guitar and vocals over it live. Think relatively simple, sparse post-punk/industrial a la Big Black or New Order.
But I'd love to have somewhere more complex to go with it.

Re: Monotribe?
Monotribe sounds incredible for the price, especially with all the fun mods that are continuously coming out for it. It's just too bad that it only stores one pattern, which makes it difficult to use in a live situation unless you're playing repetetive EDM (Don't!). Even an old school tape-out data backup would have been nice. If you install MIDI, you can use a sequencer to record 8 bars/128 steps, and just play it slooow.
Nintendo Korg DS-10 is a great suggestion. Sounds almost as good, has many more features, and is much better for live performance. It's only drawback is that you can only tweak one thing at a time with the stylus. I play live with only that sometimes, and yes, I look like an ass doing it.

Re: Monotribe?
it IS a cool groovebox - and i use it together with a MIDI controller - which opens up more possibilites. and its titally hackable for more options.
Of course its not a be all end all synth - is there ever one?
but its good enough to compliment an already existing setup - i play in both a noise improv and and a kraut/psych band with vox, and the Tribe has proved its usefulness in both bands....
