This. I had a Rainbow machine and I miss it currently. I like the slight pitch descending reverb I could make, or making it into a -4th down pitch shifter and blending in the clean and suboctave 4th and play riffy 70s rock and roll stuff. Just because a lot of demos focus on that "OH HAI LOOK SPACE NOISES" doesn't mean you have to take the pedal to that extreme. But if it is not doing it for you then buy/sell/trade it away. Saying that you like the sound but not the "whole-tone" quality of it means you found a sound that you like, now it should be easier to identify that sound in other pedals and find one more to your liking and faster because of it. :joy:

For sure. I'm still interested in something else that does the same effect with maybe a different algorhythm. I'll look up that particle everyone was talking about!

it does everything i thought was neat in the Rainbow and soooooooo much morrrrrrrrrrre.

....... AND MY OPINION MATTERS. for some reason.

A what?

I love my Rainbow Machine, but there was a period where I didn't gel with it.
It's not for everyone, and that's for certain, but it is a fun pedal that's a staple on my board.

But if you don't dig it, you could probably trade it for something rad?

For what it's worth, when I first got it it took me about a month to figure out exactly what how I was going to use it.
:idk:

For my tastes I find it's more useful in band settings and for recording at the less extreme settings. As others have mentioned play with the more subtle effects it can produce. I start by 'zeroing' it out so it sounds almost just like my clean signal and then start tweaking ever so slightly. It's taken me about 6 months to fully realize that the pedal has more potential than as led on. The extreme settings make it sound like a one trick pony but the true magic of the pedal lies in the in between zones. If I were you hang on to it for another month, experiment with it, if you don't find what you're looking for, flip it.

cheesy to quote my own vids, but even though there's tons of slop in thar, i don't really like the other demos that much.

YAY NARCISSISM.

See, I've got a Particle and a Rainbow machine, and use 'em totally differently. In fact, one of my favorite things ever is to send the Particle into the Rainbow, with the Rainbow on a more subtle setting (like the detuned verb/slapbacky sound PP described). It's like... MULTIDIMENSIONAL, maaaaaaaaaaan...

I spent a lot of time with it over the days and i'm pretty set on letting it go. I did find some more settings I liked but they are very similar to sounds I could make combining other pedals.

Hey, you did your due diligence - that's all anyone could ask! Now go forth and use it to get a pedal that you REALLY want!

Glad you can dig it! It's cool, it's just not what i'm looking for. I can do the effects I like on it with different pedals I have. so I'm paying mostly for the magic button which I honestly don't think I have a use for. if I miss it one day I can always go back and buy another
