much as i worship my oldies there are modern delays i love too. deluxe memory boy, supa puss, timeline & ghost disaster are all fighting in my rig. cave dweller coming soon...

I found it's hard for ppl to be objective in delay or any pedals. Most of them prolly answered dmm, space echo, dm-2, ad999, or other good old ones. Big pull mostly is about the MOJO + the sound quality + PRIDE factor. I guess that's lacking with pedals these days, the combination of both aesthetic (it's important for me, I just can't stand ugly pedals, you can go to the river and drown if you don't agree with me on this one i don't care 
) and the sound quality itself. But yeah, it is what it is man.. all comes back to ears..

I dunno dude. I know that PumpkinPieces had a big box one, then one of the xo's, and then he got rid of it for another big box. Unless it's the newest DMMTT which might sound just as good. But I'd heard some TGP babies whining about how the DMMTT didn't have the background noise/hiss and they actually kind of missed it haha
I've got the DMMTT and it's pretty awesome. I can't help comparing it with the DMB, though. I wish they would've had an lfo-type/depth knob on the DMMTT like the one on the DMB. The delays on it are much more musical and bouncy to me, and every time I play with it I get that warm feeling like after eating really rich chocolate.
If I had the money I'd get that Moog 104m though.

i don't mind also throwing that i've had a 104m and have never missed it. still have five other 'foogers too. to each their own & all that.

DMB cleaner? That's funny, I found them to be way dirty and dark. Not in a bad way, although I could never find the right mix between clean and repeats... anywho.
I'm not sure how delays can be fat... I guess it's not the word I'd use to describe it. Anywho... about this...

The XO was pretty good, had all the good things about the big box... I honestly just like the way the big box looks, not to mention it's a lot easier to tweak the big spread out knobs rather than the small squeezed together ones.

Just another of my lame opinion.
As a delay freak, I go both ways on this. I've always got a long honeymoon period with most delays that I aquire, and test them extensively to see how well they fit into my sound. After trying so many of them, you figure out what works and what doesn't work, as with all pedals- it's taken me over 30 delays to figure out which I needed to keep or reaquire because there was something about them that I needed for my sound.
I must admit I felt like a badass and had some 'pride' when I had the big box DMM, but I found that the AD9 could do the DELAY of the DMM without the modulation that I used only slightly.
To be honest with you the best delay that I've personally used for my rig is the Madbean CaveDweller. It's digital, but oscillates and is dark like an analog. But for ANALOG delay, yeah, DMM big box. It definitely had some quarks that needed to be worked around like the shitty bypass and lots of noise, but it sounded great and sat really well. I've tried SO many delays, been critical of every single one of them, and come back to just 3: Vintage DMM for analog stuff, DD7 for digital stuff, and Cave Dweller Delay for ambient stuff.
I had some more recent analog delays, the Malekko 616 for a while that had a horrible clicking to it, although the delay itself was pretty okay. I also had one of the newer DOD Analog Delays and it just didn't sound well at all like the vintage FX90. I'd like to try one of the Malekko 300's and 600's, but even those modern analog delays are based off of old circuits. I must admit that I do love the aesthetic of the 616 Lofi though, as opposed to the Strymon stuff. I like when people actually take time to design their pedals through and through. Yeah, the Strymon stuff sounds awesome (for the most part) and is extremely user friendly, but the aesthetics are just so lifeless. Not even in an utilitarian, tool like aesthetic.
If it was what was 'the fatest delay in general' I bet you would probably see a few more varied and not so typical answers.

I was going to say, I've got a Skullservant-built CaveDweller, and it is GORGEOUS! Super dark, super lush, and it's got the best smooth warp/wiggle/slide from messing with the delay time knob of any delay I've played, analog or digital. Seriously, I just wanna rehouse it in a wah enclosure so I can just ride the shifting delay slides...

Madbean really outdid himself with the design of it. I am pretty enamored myself with the beast. It's just SO good. and like Jrmy said, unlike most delays that kind of just 'jump' when you move the dial, this softly glides in the most musical way.

Well, I could be totally wrong, I didn't A/B them. I played the old big box DMM years ago, so I'm comparing the DMB to my memory of the DMM. But I remember the DMM being really dirty and smeared, and the DMB is a little crisper to my ears than what I remember the DMM sounding like.
Regardless, either way, I just love some of the crazy options on the DMB. From now on, I'll never be able to be happy with a delay that doesn't have expression control of feedback.
